Conclave Gregorio X
The longest papal election in history began in 1268. After almost three years of discussions, the people, exasperated, walled up the doors of the palace where the cardinals were gathered, forcing them to reach an agreement. In 1271, Gregorio X was finally elected. He later officially established the Conclave, from the Latin cum clave, meaning “locked room”.
Ever since, the cardinals of the Catholic Church, gathered to elect a new Pope, have been required to remain “locked under key”. Just like the casks in which this whisky rests and matures.
Conclave Gregorio X whisky is aged for 5 years in used and reconditioned medium-toast white oak casks, in order to extract only the softer tannins from the pores of the wood.
A further one-year finishing in Vin Santo casks gives this whisky a rich and enveloping aroma.
