The long Life of the Elixirs

In herbal medicine Elixir is a liqueur obtained by the infusion of fruits, herbs or medicinal plants, used as a tonic, aperitif or digestif.

The Elixir of Long Life (from the Arabic al-Iksīr, the essential part) was a legendary potion that could grant immortality to whoever drank it. It was also known as "Quintessence of life", because it contained the five essential elements (air, water, fire, earth, ether).

The search for this miraculous drink was the main goal of many medieval alchemists.
